~Kindred Spirit~
‘Someone that you feel an instant connection with. No words need to be spoken, as there is already a profound understanding and mutual respect that is felt.'
I drew my inspiration for this piece from a painting “Gathering Roses", by James William Waterhouse . I loved the use of colors and I too love gathering roses.
This Vanity has been painted in hues of greens, blues and shades of pink. I’ve blended in areas and ombred in others. It has been distressed and then sealed using two coats of polycrylic, that has given it a lustrous finish.
The top has been stripped, re-stained then sealed. All hardware is new and has been beautifully embellished. Drawer sides have been stenciled in liquid gold. Furniture salve by Wise Owl “The Botanist” has been used inside of drawers. It’s like you can smell the flowers from where you’re seated. Drawers have been lined in a quality checkered paper. The stool has been reupholstered in a dense cotton stripped fabric and has been stained guarded. Entire back of this piece is fully painted and sealed.
My only hope for this piece, is that she finds her “Kindred Spirit"
With Love,
Jem

This beautiful collaboration of two completely different pieces, have come together to form a one of a kind showstopper.
From the refinished mirror, painted in a rich grey- green and gilded with an antique gold wax, to the completely refurbished and refinished early 1900's table that has been customized to fit. This pair couldn't have turned out more perfect.
I am so grateful to have had this opportunity to customize something for such a beautiful and exciting venue.
Thank you again,
~Jorraine

~Reflections
Like the reflection of sky on water...
These were well loved pieces that had been outgrown by my client's children, but yet still had a great amount of potential. They are solid wood pieces and are very well made. They now have a new life and the best part is, the memories are still there.
These have been primed and then painted in a semi-gloss custom blend blue. All hardware is new including the hinges and have been given my special touch. Wise owl furniture salve has been used in both armoire and dresser to give a spring time fragrance.
I'm always honored to give makeovers for pieces like these, as they hold alot of special memories. Now, they will continue on being loved and making new memories.
Thank you so much for choosing me.

About me...
Well, I'm a midwestern girl, born and raised in Kansas. I grew up on a small ten acre farm outside of Leavenworth KS, where my mother ran a retirement home for Veterans. My childhood was unlike most other children my age. I lived with eight extra granparents at anyone time. Some came, some went, but most stayed. They were just as much our family as we were theirs.
I was expected to help with daily activities, which lead to me being quite mature for my age. This extra responsibility would come in hand later in my life, when I joined he U.S. Navy.
I graduated from a Catholic high school and continued a year at the nearby community college. It wasn't long thereafter that I grew tired of my hometown and decided to up and move to Asheville NC. I needed a change. I was going to the mountains! I packed my few belongings, rented an apartment (from a two week old newspaper), sight unseen and drove my little Isuzu trooper all the way there at 19yrs old. You know, alot of people ask me "weren't you scared?"... and I always say "of what?" "Being alone?"... to be honest, it was one of the best things I've ever done for myself in my life. You know, when you are alone, you learn to be your own bestfriend and you learn to enjoy your own company.
To be young... I had aspired to become an interior designer/decorator. I searched for jobs only to end up working at a local painting company. I remember the day of my interview. Everyone there predicted that I wouldn't last a week. I was there for over two years. I learned alot from these skilled men. Most of them had been working this trade for years. What I learned from them is truly priceless. This would be the start of my passion for painting and restoration. We restored museums, cathedrals, and some of the most beautiful homes.
After a while I knew that I needed to get my education, so I decided to join the service. But, I did so as a corpsmen. I served my country, then I got out and put myself through nursing school. I worked as a surgical nurse in an operating room for several years, and I enjoyed it.
Since then, I've gotten married, to my husband Skip, have three beautiful "Gems" I call my angels. Tre 7, Jasper 5, and Shaye 4. I'm blessed in that I get to be at home with my children, along with living my dream of creating my "Jems" for people to enjoy.
"My passion is taking something old, tattered, and forgotten, and turning it into something beautifully and useful once again."
I hope more than anything, I make something for people to love and adore.
Love always,
Jem💋

I've even made my own, but I have found that I truly enjoy working with Dixie Belle. I mostly use acrylic, stain and gold leaf when creating my handpainted jewelry. I've worked with clay, alcohol ink and gilding waxes. It depends on the piece at hand that I decide what will be used.
My favorite thing of all that I do, is to create something from something old, tattered and unuseful and turning it into something beautiful and once again useful. Giving it another chance at life. Recreating it's worth.
I've always enjoyed decorating, since I was a little girl. I had once aspired to become a designer, but life took me in another direction. My inspiration is dependent on the piece I'm working on. I've always enjoyed decorating, since I was a little girl. I had once aspired to become a designer, but life took me in another direction. My inspiration is dependent on the piece I'm working on. When considering the inspiration for piece of furniture, it may come with the piece or it may come from a feeling I get from it. Like an old photograph left tucked behind the mirror or an old crayon colored picture taped to the inside, left behind that tells a story of its history. Other items, like my jewelry is mostly created by what I've loved about jewelry as a whole. Boho style with a Gypsy soul would be a great description of my jewelry style. Natural, free and not confined.
